Tracking Mechanisms

Tracking mechanisms are used by website operators to monitor and, if necessary, control the online marketing measures used on the basis of their effect. Synonymous with the term tracking, the terms "web controlling", "web analysis" or "traffic analysis" are also frequently used. Tracking describes the success monitoring, control and efficiency analysis of a website and the applied online marketing measures.

In general, mechanisms used for tracking examine from where the visitors of a website come, what exactly the behaviour and actions on the platform look like and, if applicable, what happens after they leave the page. Basically, there are two different methods by which tracking is carried out.
We use tracking mechanisms to measure and analyse reach of and to personalise offers. If you are a registered and logged-in user, we also use tracking mechanisms to create a profile.

Reach measurement and analysis

Reach measurement and analysis (also clickstream analysis, traffic analysis, web analysis, web controlling, etc.) is the collection of data and its evaluation with regard to the behaviour of visitors on websites. An analytics mechanism typically examines from where visitors come, which areas on a website are visited and how often and for how long individual subpages and categories are viewed. It is primarily used to optimise the website and improve the achievement of certain goals (e.g. increase in page views, visitor frequencies, newsletter subscriptions). Basically, web analysis can be differentiated between evaluation methods for permanent measurement of page effectiveness and methods for finding weak points in the website and possibilities for improvement.
