HARTING has played a key role in the expansion of the VME architecture to 64 bits and data rates of 160 Mbyte/s (VME 64x) with the development of the new backward-compatible connector with 160 contacts.

Backward compatibility

The design of the har-bus^® 64 female connector enables five-row and three-row standard male connectors to be connected. Five-row male connectors can also be plugged into three-row female connectors.This type of backward compatibility allows the user to gradually enter the upper performance class while simultaneously using their existing daughter cards in less technically demanding slots.
