Power-saving and wiring-saving PDU/rPDU connection solution

The rPDU (Rack Power Distribution Unit) connection solution using the plastic dustproof and waterproof Han-Eco® connector has been adopted by Project Olympus, a new open source next-generation hyperscale cloud hardware development model developed by Microsoft in collaboration with the OCP* community. The plug-type connector significantly reduces installation and maintenance work compared to direct wiring, and reduces costs by preventing incorrect wiring. It also saves space and reduces power consumption by up to 50% compared to conventional connectors.

*Open Compute Project (OCP). An open community proposed by Facebook in 2011 to design and provide efficient data center hardware. Microsoft, Apple, and IBM also participate. It develops and provides specifications for servers, air conditioning, power systems, racks, etc. for highly efficient data centers.

Next-generation Data Center Power System Power Shelf Connection Solution

The Han® ORV3 connector is a connector compliant with OCP's Open Rack v3 , developed by HARTING based on the plastic dustproof and waterproof connector Han-Eco®. OCP provides the recommended design "Open Rack" for data centers free of charge, and Open Rack version 3 (ORV3) has begun to be introduced around the world from early 2023.
Open Rack uses a system that supplies power from a centralized power shelf unit via a bus bar installed vertically on the rack, achieving a completely wiring-free system. The use of bus bars reduces cables and eliminates the need for AC/DC conversion on the server side, making it a next-generation energy-saving solution that reduces power loss and heat generation.

Space-saving and energy-efficient bus duct connection solution

Power supply to racks is shifting from a method in which cables are used to supply power to servers from under the floor to a wiring-saving bus duct method in which power is supplied from bus bars installed in the ceiling. The small industrial connector Han® 3A is available as an interface for connecting the plug-in unit of the bus duct to the PDU and power shelf in the rack. This product is one-third the size of an IEC/CEE plug, and two can be installed in the space of one conventional connector. It also reduces power loss by up to 80% and heat generation by up to 25%.
