Assemble, install, forget: Durable interfaces for high currents in energy applications

With the Han® HPR HPTC, HARTING offers durable interfaces to transmit high currents in energy applications. As simple and safe as possible.

High current interfaces

The energy transition is well underway and has arrived in all industry segments. Numerous new technologies are being developed which present companies with the challenge of transmitting high currents safely and efficiently. With the Han® HPR HPTC, HARTING offers durable interfaces for high currents in energy applications. As simple and safe as possible. The connectors of the series are characterised by a high energy density: they are designed for operating voltages up to 3.6 kV/1400A (AC/DC) and can withstand environmental influences such as salt spray, dirt and high humidity (IP 68/69). The interface components are designed to be extremely robust so that power transmission between generators, converters and transformers remains stable in the long term.

Safety through simplicity

The demand for the greatest possible safety and simplicity determines the packaging, installation, operation and dismantling of the HPTC. Even the cartonnage contributes to simplicity through pre-structuring. Some parts are pre-assembled: the aluminium housing and internal insulating body are already connected, so they can be installed in the field quickly. The use of partly pre-assembled components increases the safety of the assembly. No special tools are needed.

The modular system is flexible and expandable

Significantly faster installation

The time required to assemble Han® HPR HPTC interfaces is about half that of comparable products. This is due to the particularly simple assembly. Only a few parts are used and the pre-assembled components also help to improve increase safety. On the cable side, a crimped contact is inserted into a three-part, touch-proof insulating body. In addition, there is a cable gland that protects against dust and moisture. The cable gland also forms part of the shielding that absorbs residual currents and transfers them to the housing.

Now simply add the cover (including seal), tighten the cable gland, and that's it. Shrinking or taping is not required, air and creepage distances are safely maintained. A separate shield discharge is not required.

Higher energy at the same temperature

The Han® HPR HPTC stands out among connectors of the same size due to its higher energy density. This increases flexibility in the application. The compatibility with the flange on the mounting side is critical for the application. On the transformer side, this increases the current-carrying capacity from 1250 A to 1400 A compared to conventional connectors. The Han® HPR HPTC therefore transmits significantly more energy at the same temperature.

High-quality materials ensure a longer lifetime

The housings are made of die-cast aluminium, the HPR surfaces are powder-coated and the contacts are silver-plated. In the case of the socket contact, there is also a special transfer element in the receptacle: two springs wrap around the pin in the socket and ensure the best possible contact, even when forces act on the cable or housing. HPTC interfaces are resistant to shock and vibration. Their contacts are thoroughly protected against external influences; after insertion, the contact is locked in place with a slide in the insulating body. This supports the plug connection mechanically. The housing, insulator and contact thus form a single unit. External forces first act on the cable gland, then on the slide and finally on the contact. The contacts are only subjected to a minimal load.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Well-designed solution offers quick, easy and safe installation

  • Longer lifetime due to Han® HPR standard metal hoods and housings for very harsh environments (pollution degree PD4 according to IEC 60664-1, IP 68/69)

  • Higher transmission performance at the same temperature (in relation to comparable solutions)

  • Complexity reduction: one system for shielded and unshielded cable applications

  • Cost savings due to minimum inventory needed, based on efficient coding system
