Partnership-based development of an all-round solution
Perfect, efficient solutions can result from joint engineering and combined expertise. The Siemens and HARTING product experts proved this fact in their development of a new generation of frequency converters.
For some twenty years, HARTING has been supplying system solutions for connecting decentralised drive units in intra-logistics. This developed into an intensive partnership between Siemens and HARTING. It is now moving forward with the development of a further series of decentralised drive systems, the SINAMICS G115D from Siemens. The system was developed for horizontal conveyor systems, such as those found in airports or in intra-logistics.
Global collaboration is the key to success
The connector and cabling solutions for inside and outside the device, which transmit data, signals and power, were developed and produced by Siemens and HARTING in different countries. Thus, an internationally active cooperation was established for this project.
The global team of HARTING engineers combined their connector expertise to find a successful solution in cooperation with Siemens and continue the success story between the two companies.
Proven technology combined with innovation
As an evolution of the predecessor models of the SINAMICS G115D, the focus was on factors such as robustness, stability and compactness. The development focused on a new electronics module, additional drive functionality, and the requirement that the unit be designed for energy efficiency.
Inside the device, innovative new connectors from the har-drive® series supplement the tried-and-tested DIN connectors within the frequency converter. These were specially developed in cooperation with Siemens for the requirements of drive systems, and adapted to the compact design of the frequency converter. The focus was on simple, convenient handling as well as safe contact under all mating conditions.
The HARTING Compact® interfaces (Han® Q8 and Han® Q4/2), which have almost become standards, are outside the device. These are supplemented by M12 circular connectors for transmitting signals. Thanks to suitably pre-assembled system cabling, the connections and networking within the conveyor systems readily achieve Plug & Play mode.
