CCS Inlet Type 2
Combined and compact charging with the "CCS" vehicle inlet
E-mobility is the future. Experts agree that tomorrow’s energy concepts will be inconceivable without electromobility. The mobility market is being consistently driven forward by innovations and HARTING is also contributing to these developments with its "Automotive" activities - with future technologies for the rapidly growing segment of e-mobility charging infrastructure systems. Here, the company is a much sought-after partner for highly efficient, customised charging solutions
As opposed to technologies prevailing to date, which required the complex installation of a complete cable harness including inlets at both ends, HARTING is now developing the "CCS Inlet Type2" vehicle inlet. With this idea of a "Combined Charging System", the company is pursuing the principle of compactness: The connection technology of the vehicle charging socket has been significantly slimmed down; the contacts at the front can also be used at the back and thereby form the mating face for the rear plug connection. In this way, this closed unit requires very little installation space. The unit consists of the housing with the upper and lower part, a circuit board with temperature sensors as well as the holder for the circuit board, contacts for the AC and DC range and corresponding seals.
The contacts led through the housing form the connection options for the connector at the back and comprise a total of three connections:
- Connectors for signal contacts (charge control and temperature monitoring)
- Connector for AC charging (PE, N, L1-L3)
- Connectors for DC charging (DC+ and DC-)
The design with connections at the back offers clear advantages. This enables the pre-assembly of the complex charging socket without cables – meaning that automobile manufacturers do not have to install the inlet with the complete wiring harness in one step. Instead, the cable can be laid first and the inlet subsequently connected. Consequently, in the event of defects, only the inlet needs to be replaced without having to dismantle the entire wiring harness. And finally, only one inlet is required for several power classes – as the power depends exclusively on the connected cable.
